Training is a great way to upskill your team and improve performance, but one of the biggest challenges when crafting the perfect programme is maintaining team engagement. Without clear strategies, even the most well-planned-out session can fall flat.
Here are our expert trainer’s top tips to consider to ensure your team remains engaged and get the most out of their learning experiences:
1. Make your sessions interactive:
Many create a presentation and talk through several slides, although you may think your presentation is amazing, many will most likely find it boring. Encouraging employees to take an active role in their learning journey can significantly boost their engagement.
2. Teamwork makes the dream work:
On a similar topic to the first tip, ensure your interactive workshops encourage teamwork. Whether it’s in groups of two, or four or even collaborating as a whole group, working together will not only boost engagement but build strong connections within the team.
3. Unleash your team’s competitive side:
Anybody finds a friendly competition enjoyable. When considering your interactive content how can you create a game-style workshop? Consider creating a quiz, or a challenge, which incorporates a competitive element to increase engagement and excitement.
4. Keep it short and sweet:
A long talking presentation can be intense and quickly lead to disengagement. Breaking down your content into smaller learning modules can be much easier to digest, whether it’s shortening the content of your training or even considering delivering your sessions over a few days. Either way will ensure your team remain engaged.
5. Make your training relevant:
The main reason for training your team is to improve their skills to aid their roles. Tailoring your material to your team’s tasks and work challenges will ensure your employees take the knowledge from their session and apply it to their job. A key way to achieve this is role-playing scenarios. For instance, if your team are Customer Service based you could role-play how to correctly talk to customers on the phone or how to deal with difficult scenarios.
6. Don’t just stop after your training:
Learning shouldn’t finish once the session ends, it’s valuable to offer ongoing learning by providing additional resources, follow-up sessions or opportunities to share their knowledge with colleagues who’d benefit from it.
By implementing these top tips, you will be able to enhance the effectiveness of your training to create a more engaged, motivated workforce.
